Ellen Tomlins was selected as Student of the Month for her “positive attitude,” eagerness to learn, and constant desire to challenge herself and others.
Over the course of her two and a half years at Notre Dame, Ellen has devoted herself to a wide variety of clubs, activities, and sports. On the artistic side, she plays French horn in the concert band and mellophone in the pep and marching bands. She is also an active participant in PND’s theater program, as she has earned significant roles in several school productions and even currently serves as the Drama Club Treasurer. Ellen is also heavily involved in Campus Ministry, as she is a member of Teens for Life, Lumen Christi, and Bishop’s Leadership Committee, and she is a major contributor to both the Irish Chronicle and to Student Ambassadors. Additionally, she has been a member of various sports teams during her time at PND, including the girls’ tennis and cross country teams.
Ellen’s nomination for this award is especially timely given her tireless work to help with the Christmas Basket Drive. As a member of the All-School Council, Ellen played a crucial role in promoting and publicizing the charitable event as one of the moderators of ASC’s Instagram account. From creating her own content to sharing others’ posts, to even getting her younger siblings involved, Ellen has done everything she can to make the Christmas Basket Drive a success.
Last but certainly not least, Ellen also distinguishes herself in the classroom. Ranked first in her class, she has consistently maintained an excellent academic record while taking numerous Honors and AP classes as a part of the AP Capstone program. Her in-class participation helps her peers to succeed, too; her teachers note that “she is a great group member… as she encourages others, listens to all ideas, and willingly shares her own.”
Congratulations to Ellen on this well-deserved award!
