This course is designed as a two term course to provide additional support in concepts of English and American Literature. The course is a thematic survey of American Literature including nonfiction, short stories, novels, poetry, and drama. Literature study will focus on reading comprehension and an intense review of literary terminology. Composition instruction, based on the process approach, provides structured and guided practice in writing for a variety of purposes, including a research paper. Development and reinforcement of grammar skills are emphasized, along with intense reviews and applications of parts of speech, parts of sentence, and grammar agreement. Also included in the course are vocabulary development, library experience, citation practice, and study skills.

Prerequisites

Completion of 105 Introduction to Literature or 110 Introduction to Literature. Course satisfies a requirement for graduation.
