Winterim

Welcome

We are excited and proud to offer The Winterim Session at Peoria Notre Dame, two weeks of immersive, engaging, and genuine learning experiences for our students. Aligned with our mission to form disciples of Jesus Christ in a Catholic community of knowledge, faith, and service, the Winterim Session provides students the opportunity to grow in their personal relationships with Jesus Christ, build community with their peers and teachers, serve our community, and develop lifelong skills for future careers and endeavors. We hope this unique—and annual—experience builds confidence within our students, inspires their curiosities and passions, and reminds them of the joy of learning.

Description

Winterim is a two-week period in between semesters in which students can take creative, innovative courses that they are passionate about and that expose them to new opportunities. Students take two classes each winterim: one morning class from 8-11 a.m. and one afternoon class from 12-3 p.m. Each winterim class is worth 1⁄4 credit, resulting in a 1⁄2 credit earned during each winterim period.

Winterim Registration

Students will register for winterim courses during the fall preceding the winterim period. Students will receive this course catalog to help with selecting courses. Students will register by class—starting with seniors—via a SignUp Genius link sent to their school email. Because spots in each course are limited, some students may not receive their first choice of course. Once a course is filled on Signup Genius, no more slots will be opened, and students should select a different course. Students will select two courses when they register for winterim—one morning course and one afternoon course—unless they are participating in all day courses, like senior internships. Administration reserves the right to change the levels of classes depending on availability. Peoria Notre Dame reserves the right to change the courses offered based on instructor availability, the availability of on-site locations, and/or low enrollment numbers.

Winterim Course Completion

To receive credit for a winterim course, students must meet the following requirements:

  • attend at least nine out of ten days of the course
  • receive a passing grade for the course
  • complete the final course project and any checkpoints or assessments
  • please note that winterim classes do not satisfy NCAA or college admissions requirements

Graduation Requirement

To graduate from Peoria Notre Dame High School, each student must complete two full credits of winterim courses. Students who do not complete two full credits of winterim courses (eight total courses) cannot graduate from PND and will not receive a diploma. Students may not take the same winterim course more than one time (with the exception of credit recovery) unless granted approval from a school administrator. The following courses may not earn winterim credits for a student’s transcript because they meet other graduation requirements, but do count toward the winterim graduation requirement:

  • Christian Service Program recovery hours
  • credit recovery courses through Catholic Virtual
