The Advanced Placement course in United States Government and Politics is designed to give students a critical perspective on politics and government. This course involves both the study of general concepts used to interpret United States politics and an examination of the various institutions, groups, beliefs, and ideas that make up American politics. Course topics include Constitutional Underpinnings of U.S. government, Political Beliefs and Behaviors, Political Parties, Interest Groups, and Mass Media, Institutions of National Government, Public Policies, and Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. This course prepares students to take the AP American Government Exam. Students must take both trimesters to meet graduation requirements.
