AP Capstone Diploma qualified students take this required course in place of the required British Literature course for grade 11 students. British and World Literature is covered in this course. AP examination fees do apply.

This course aligns to an introductory college-level literary analysis course. The course engages students in the close reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature to deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure. As they read, students consider a work’s structure, style, and themes, as well as its use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. Writing assignments include expository, analytical, and argumentative essays that require students to analyze and interpret literary works. Summer reading is required for this course.

Prerequisites

Grade of A- or higher in 125 American Literature or a grade of C+ or higher in 130 American Literature (H). An academic course review will be conducted to determine student’s placement within the course. Course satisfies a requirement for graduation.
