This course provides students with the opportunity to perform in a group and develop skills as a musician in concert, pep, and marching bands. Instruction is provided to enhance performance skills, technical proficiency, knowledge of terms and notation, tone, rhythm, counting, scales, and advanced playing techniques. Students are expected to participate in all concerts, parades, home football games, and home (men’s) basketball games. Other performances include visit days, pep rallies, and graduation. Students may participate in the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) auditions as well as the IHSA Solo and Ensemble Contest. Further opportunities include honor bands at various colleges and universities. Permission of instructor is required if student has not previously been in band. Rehearsals are during Advisory. Students will be expected to commit to regular attendance and participation.

Prerequisites

Ability to play an instrument. Course does not fulfill the Fine Arts requirement for graduation.
