This course provides students with the opportunity to perform in a group and develop skills as a musician in concert, pep, and marching band*. Instruction is provided to enhance performance skills, technical proficiency, knowledge of terms and notation, tone, rhythm, counting, scales, and advanced playing techniques. Students are expected to participate in all concerts, parades, and pep events. Other performances include visit days, pep rallies, and graduation. Students can participate in the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) auditions as well as the IHSA Solo & Ensemble Contest. Further opportunities include honor bands at various colleges and universities. Permission of the instructor is required if the student has not previously been in band. Rehearsals are during advisory. Students will be expected to commit to regular attendance and participation.

 

*Marching band requires an after school commitment of August band camp, rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5-8 pm during the season, and all home football games during the marching season. If you have conflicts with sports, but still want to participate, contact the instructor.

Prerequisites

Ability to play an instrument. Course does not fulfill the Fine Arts requirement for graduation.
