The course introduces students to an in-depth overview of life sciences whereby students gain an understanding that all living things depend on each other. Instruction includes the characteristics of living things, cellular structures and functions, the major life processes, how traits are passed from one generation to another, the interactions of matter, taxonomy and evolution, introductory biochemistry and genetics, ecological concepts and an overview of the kingdoms. Students are expected to complete trimester projects that provide experience in applying scientific knowledge to real world situations, individual and collaborative assignments/projects, and laboratory experiments.
