Mrs. Bingaman’s science classes have been actively exploring the ways of the world! Last week with the beautiful autumn weather, Mrs. B took learning outdoors to explore the wonders of nature and science with her freshman biology classes.
Students were assigned to collect 5 specimens (including leaves, flowers, insects, seeds, or nuts) that were once living, identify them, and mount them in a booklet. One problem they tried to solve was why leaves at the bottom of a 60 year old tree can be much larger than leaves at the top of the tree. They also learned to identify plant species, such as Crab Apple, Burning Bush, and Hawthorn trees, using both traditional field guides and phone apps to help.
Additionally, this week the Biology students dove into photosynthesis – creating songs and memorable methods to remember the process. Students in Environmental Science, Ethan Maloof and Manoah Sanni, worked on developing a new filter for drinking water.
These classes are great ways to explore God’s creation and combine faith and science in the learning process!
