Emma Geers Selected as September Female Athlete of the Month

Emma Geers has been selected to be the Female Athlete of the Month for September. Emma’s coaches feel she not only is “one of the better golfers in Central Illinois,” but also “has been a great leader for the golf team.”

Emma has been passionate about golf throughout all her four years at Peoria Notre Dame, and— despite COVID-19— her senior year has been especially successful. According to her coaches, Emma is “consistently among the top finalists in all of [the team’s] matches/tournaments.” In the Ladies’ first match of the 2020 season, The City Tournament, Emma was the medalist of the tournament. Later on, in the Metamora Invitational, she placed 5th out of sixty-two golfers— an impressive feat! Her achievements are made even more impressive by the many other activities Emma excels in outside of golf, including being the President of Student Ambassadors, Co-President of the Drama Club, a clarinet section captain in the school band, and more.

More importantly than Emma’s athletic accomplishments, however, are her undeniable leadership and sportsmanship skills. She always has a “bright and sunny” smile on her face, and she makes it a priority to help the younger members of her team. Emma is Captain of the Golf team this year, and though she is the only Senior on the team, she is close with all of her teammates and even “helps the three freshmen on the team adjust to high school and the golf season.”

Although IHSA has canceled the Golf State Series, Emma is excited to play in the upcoming Regional on October 7th. Being the true leader that she is, she has stayed positive about the pandemic’s changes to her senior season and encouraged her teammates to do the same— yet another reason she is highly deserving of this award. Congratulations to Emma, and good luck to her for the rest of her season!
